We thought it would be fun to each share parts of our story in our own words, so you’ll hear from both of us below!
OUR STORY began on New Year’s Eve in Denver. I like to think that it was my dance moves that swept Carly off of her feet – but she insists that it had more to do with my impressive performance at the all-you-can-eat hotdog table. For me, it was the way the bright lights reflected in Carly’s eyes. She was stunning. Either way, the connection was instant. With every new song, we found ourselves closer and closer together. Eventually, the time came: Midnight. Surrounded by fireworks and the energy of a new year, we shared our first kiss on the rooftop of Jackson’s. It’s the perfect start for our story – one filled with laughter, love, and a little bit of fate.
Life together since has been full of adventure—skiing, camping, brewery hopping, sushi nights, competitive card games, and plenty of travel. With family at the heart of both our lives, Christian and I have shared countless days in Maine and Oklahoma. Maine has always been my anchor. Every year I bring Christian back to Kennebunk, where he is always welcomed with mopeds, nights out, beach days, and his favorite – lobster dinners. In return, Christian brings me to Oklahoma. While the weather is just a little bit too humid for my liking, the love of his family and friends makes every trip worthwhile. Christian also takes full credit for reintroducing me to red meat after 12 years away from it—thanks to a little “family peer pressure” at the dinner table. At his home, I even learned how to ride horses – thanks Mark! When we’re not visiting the places we call home, you’ll usually find us in the mountains with friends or exploring Denver’s food scene together.
The first chapter of our story closed on my favorite holiday, July 4th, when Christian surprised me on Goose Rocks Beach in Maine by asking me to marry him. He was so nervous he almost fumbled the ring. But, with a little help from friends and family, his plan came together perfectly. I said yes—and it was the most wonderful day ever!
Now that the hard part of my job is out of the way, Carly and I are ready to celebrate! It’s time to trade our ski boots and cowboy boots in for some dancing shoes, and toast to forever with the people we love most. Can’t wait to see everyone out there and make some more memories! Bring on chapters two, three, four, five, and so on!
Love,
Carly and Christian
